Hypothyroidism induced by antituberculosis drugs

نویسندگان

چکیده

Tuberculosis is an infectious disease that affects practically all organs, including the thyroid gland. In same time, hypofunction of gland may increase susceptibility to infection with Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Antituberculosis treatment, especially second-line drugs, can lead hypothyroidism. It has been found rifampicin, ethionamide, prothionamide and para-aminosalicylic acid are among most common antituberculosis drugs responsible for development These preparations/agents cause dysfunction by increasing metabolism clearance hormones inducing cytochrome P-450 enzymes, deregulating/ iodine uptake synthesis hormones, altering hormone receptor action intracellular signal transduction. The treatment these medications requires monitoring function during in first 3 months, but also post-treatment period. installation clinical and/or subclinical hypothyroidism will require use appropriate doses levothyroxine treatment.

Antituberculosis drugs and hepatotoxicity.

Isoniazid, pyrazinamide and rifampicin have hepatotoxic potential, and can lead to such reactions during antituberculosis chemotherapy. Most of the hepatotoxic reactions are dose-related; some are, however, caused by drug hypersensitivity. The immunogenetics of antituberculosis drug-induced hepatotoxicity, especially inclusive of acetylaor phenotype polymorphism, have been increasingly unravell...

Liver Transplantation in Antituberculosis Drugs-Induced Fulminant Hepatic Failure

The antituberculosis drugs isoniazid (INH), rifampicin (RMP), pyrazinamide (PZA), and ethambutol (EMB) usually expose patients to the risk of fulminant hepatic failure (FHF). This report presents a case of liver transplantation in antituberculosis drugs-induced FHF and reviews the relevant literature. A 39-year-old woman with pelvic and salpinx tuberculosis experienced complex pelvic exenterati...

Hepatotoxicity induced by antituberculosis drugs among patients coinfected with HIV and tuberculosis.

Hepatotoxicity due to antituberculosis drugs limits treatment in patients coinfected with HIV and tuberculosis. We conducted a case-control study to identify risk factors for hepatotoxicity among patients coinfected with tuberculosis and HIV in two hospitals in Recife, Pernambuco State, Brazil. The sample consisted of 57 patients (36.5% of the total) who developed hepatotoxicity and a control g...

The early bactericidal activity of antituberculosis drugs.

Early bactericidal activity studies measure the ability of antituberculosis treatments to reduce the burden of Mycobacterium tuberculosis in sputum specimens collected overnight from smear-positive pulmonary tuberculosis patients during the first 14 days of therapy. This confirms the efficacy of novel agents or drug combinations in human patients, allows comparison of different drug dosages and...
